Lucie Hanes

Mental Performance Consultant, M.S. Applied Sports Psychology

Lucie is a professional ultrarunner and rock climber for SCARPA living in the mountains of Colorado’s Western Slope. Her proudest athletic achievements in running include taking 2nd at the Leadville 100, 1st in the Ring the Springs 100k (on top of hijacking the men’s podium), and 1st in the Valkyrie 50k. In climbing, she’s sent 5.14a within a month of standing on the podium at Leadville.

In the wake of mental health struggles that hijacked these passions for too long, Lucie figured out the hard way how much mental health and mental strength play into the life of an athlete. She’ll be forever learning and sharing how to approach activity in a wholeheartedly healthy way that brings all three corners of the wellness trifecta—physical, mental, and emotional—into balance.

Lucie holds her Masters in Applied Sports Psychology, and weaves her expertise on all things mental strength training into her work as a journalist when she’s not working one on one with outdoor athletes. You can find her work in some of the outdoor industry’s most prominent publications including Climbing Magazine, Trail Runner Magazine, Forbes, Gear Junkie, Overland Journal, ActionHub, and Eric Hörst’s Training for Climbing.

Lucie firmly believes that athletes who engage all aspects of their personalities stand the best chance of finding success however they may define it. Via a human-centered approach bringing in elements of Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Phenomenological Consulting, and Self-Determination Theory, she teaches ambitious outdoor athletes the value of trusting, respecting, and betting on themselves.
